Martha and Morton Wood wrote a wonderful letter about their experience at the 2005 Mainewoods Labor Day Weekend. It was published in the October edition of the Northwest Folkdancers magazine.
"On Labor Day my wife, Martha and I attended the Mainewoods Folkdance Camp
which we had read about in an ad in Northwest Folkdancer. This was a very
special experience for us. We have been to workshops, classes and festivals
in Hawaii, Mendocino, Oregon and Washington; but never before have we
experienced such inspired teaching as we had from Cristian Florescu and
Sonia Dion. Their enthusiasm and consummate skill were such that it left me
feeling: 'These people really love what they are doing!'. It was impossible
not to make every effort to learn and copy their steps.
Karin Gottier, a lovely, gracious woman who was also an excellent teacher,
did a fine job of teaching us Oberfelder Dreier, Muehlenpolka, Bumerang and
other German and Swiss dances. We also enjoyed watching and learning from
four superb Japanese dancers led by Toshiko Uzawa. They taught us Yagi
Bushi and Tankuo Bushi.
A beautiful, spacious wooden-floored main building, delicious meals and a
warm and welcoming spirit on the part of the staff and participants added to
our enjoyment of this experience. We were also happy to discover on the
weekend program many familiar dances.
Cristian Florescu and Sonia Dion are scheduled as the principal instructors
for next April's NFDI's 50th anniversary Festival here in Seattle. How
lucky we will be to have them again as our teachers! We assured them of a
hearty welcome in our dance community."
